WWI Simulation
This 5 day interactive simulation immerses students in historical environment leading up to WWI as they diplomacy to try to prevent the outbreak of war. The simulation includes a teacher guide, daily presentations that guide students through the simulation with linked videos, student materials, a rubric, and a follow-up presentation about the Causes of WWI. Consistently ranked as one of the most popular units in end of year teaching evaluations, this simulation has a proven track record of engaging students in a complex historical topic where they organically experience the same causes - Militarism, Allliances, Imperialism and Nationalism - that led to the outbreak of the catastrophic global conflict. Suited for grades 7-12 this simulation can be modified according to class size and length, and was created with students in response to the "it's complicated" answer they often received when asking why WWI started. With this simulation, students will come to understand the gravity and complexity that led to this key historical event and have an unforgettable collaborative (and competitive) classroom experience they won't soon forget.
